All About Rooting
Today , I am going to enlighten you about the notorious term "root" or "rooting" your android phone.
Android is the most widely-used mobile operating system.Since the advent of smartphones , Android and iOS have become the two dominant forces in the smartphone industry.
But android has a market share of 80% while iOS has a mere ~20% market share. This is largely because of competitive marketing done by Google which gives hassle free liscensing .
Rooting is basically getting boss-like powers on your phone
The problems faced by most of the android users today are-
1-Lag.Nothing infuriates the user more than a phone that takes ages to load up and stutters while doinga process.
2-Battery drain.Short Battery backup is also one of the major reasons of frustation among android users.
3-Bloatware is software that has unnecessary features that use large amounts of memory and RAM , thereby slowing down the phone.
4-Limited apps available for free or other restrictions like country or Android version
Most of the problems can be solved partially if not completely by rooting your phone.
But to understand rooting , we need to understand the structure of android OS.
ANDROID
Seriously , its just another OS right?
Yes , it is an OS but if we want to learn rooting , we need to delve deeper into the working of android.
here is what happens when you start (switch on) your phone
1-Pressing the power buttons fires up the bootloader(no matter what)and then scans your phone's memory for any OS present.
2-There are 3 things present in the phone's memory- the bootloader , the recovery , and the actual OS.there is also a fastboot mode(called download mode in samsung phones)
3-The bootloader detects if any keys have been pressed -If yes it either loads recovery mode or fastboot mode (depends on the keys pressed)OR it loads the android os normally
4-For rooting , we exploit the recovery mode which is used to "flash" a zip file.
ROOTING
So what rooting is basically is giving god-like powers(I am an atheist btw) to access hardware while the user is using his/her android phone. So , a user can uninstall all his bloatware ,remove restrictions on his device (some phones are locked to a single network) , enable wifi-hotspots etc
You can also modify/delete important files which are required for your phone to run like the animation shown during boot.So mobile makers try to prevent this by locking the bootloader or by having no recovery mode. This is
mainly because of security reasons but
Also they sometimes add clauses in their warranty conditions , SO rooting can lead to void warranty.
Rooting is often performed with the goal of overcoming limitations that carriers and hardware manufacturers put on some devices, resulting in the ability to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialised apps that require administrator-level permissions, or perform other operations that are otherwise inaccessible to a normal Android user
PROS-
1-Remove pre-installed apps that eat up memory and RAM.
2-Modify your phone , change annoying features , customize your look and feel
3-Install apps that you couldnt previously and also change your entire operating system to a newer version
4-Free up system resources which cause lag and battery drain.
5-You can install many other app stores other than GOOGLE PLAY from which you can download and install many paid apps and Games etc
6-If done properly, rooting lets you really make most of your device and customize it in any way you want.
CONS-
1-You might void your warranty
2-You might "brick" your phone , essentially turning your phone into a brick.(bricking corrupts your phone memory , it is reversible in some cases , not in others)
3-Some apps may stop working.
4-your phone can be easily infected with malware
5-If you want to improve your performance by overclocking , u may damage your processor.
6-You cant receive Official updates sent to your phone by the manufacturer.
ROOTING
If you are an advanced user with a clear goal in mind (e.g. to be able to install apps to SD because you have little internal memory), rooting Android may be a good idea. However, you should at first do some research regarding your device model and read a few tutorials. But the benefits of rooting easily surpass the
There are different ways to root different phones , and googling your specific device generally will yield better results , also i caIt cover each and every method so i will instruct you on a general method. Also there are multiple tools which help in rooting your phone with simple One-Click solutions.Rooting can cause all your data to be lost so it is advised to make a backup before rooting your phone.
